Alone Again

The January '05 issue of Christianity Today offers this story as insight into the state of the church in America:

A man is rescued after twenty years alone on a desert island. His rescuer is astonished to find that the castaway has built several imposing structures.

"Wow!" the rescuer says. "What's that beautiful stone building overlooking the bay?"

"That is my home," the castaway says.

"And what about that building over there, with the spires?"

"That," the castaway says, "is my church."

"But wait!" the rescuer says. "That building over there, with the bell tower. What is that?"

"That is the church I used to belong to."

I LOVE this joke! This is the kind of stuff I wish I could come up with...

Doug, I'm happy to be sharing deep roots with you in 2005 and every year. You're the best.

This quote is too funny not to laugh and too painful not to wince.

I have just discovered your blog recently and absolutely love

a) the tone and texture of your stories.

b) the unique approach your wife and you have for sharing different perspectives on the same topic.

I've scoured the site and can't seem to find out much in the way of your background and bio. Generally, when I connect with someone in his writing I like to learn more about that person. Is this by design or will you be sharing some of this in the near future?

I wish you all the best in the coming year.

Michael-Katy and I visited Songs4God.com and we love the 'I Just Want to See You There' song! Sally has a beautiful voice. It was exciting to read about how you guys are serving God together.
I am also a song writer, but as yet unpublished. I have lead worship or played with worship teams/bands since my teens. I'm sure I'll get around to writing more personal background stuff, but Katy tends to tell more embarrassing stories about our family on fallible.com than the world really needs.
Thanks for commenting, and for sharing your music with us!

Doug,

I happened to come upon a post you left recently at Faith*IN*Fiction (no, I promise i'm not a stalker) that said Katy had more or less wrestled you to the ground and made you start blogging. I'm glad she did. Just the few posts I've read show me you have a gift for this kind of writing.

I plan to start a blog myself once I meet my deadline in April for the book I'm finishing. I will watch you guys and hopefully learn a few tricks.

Thanks for dropping by Songs4God. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Michael--I saw your wife's book "Beauty in the Beast" referred to on your site. It looks so compelling! Tell us about your book, please.

The two of you have inspired Doug and me to imagine (believe) that maybe we actually can collaborate on some creative projects. Besides the three kids (our best work) and the website design firm we operate, that is. We're together 24/7 and we love it. But when it comes to creating together, he plays well with others and I tend to...run with scissors.

But I'm still hoping, at this late stage of life, to make the very most of the wonderful marriage God has given us. We are blessed!
